Kuih Kosui (Kuih Ko Swee)

This is Kuih Kosui (Ko Swee) or also known as Kuih Lompang in Malaysia, is a popular afternoon snack. The cake is made from palm sugar syrup, coconut milk, rice flour, tapioca starch, wheat flour and grated coconut for coating. It's sweet, soft, chewy and goes really well with a cup of tea or coffee.

Kuih Kosui (Kuih Ko Swee/Kuih Lompang)


1 Cup Grated Coconut
A bIg Pinch Sea Salt
1 Pandan Leaf

1/2 Cup Palm Sugar Syrup
1/4 Cup Water
1/2 Cup Coconut Milk
2 Tbsp Cane Sugar
1/4 Cup (30 grams) Rice Flour
1/4 Cup (30 grams) Tapioca Starch
1 1/2 Tbsp All-Purpose Flour
A Pinch of Sea Salt


Combine all the batter ingredients, mix well until it's smooth. Then strain into a measuring jug or cup. Preheat the small tea cups over high heat for 3 to 4 minutes. Pour the batter into the cups and steam for about 25 to 35 minutes.

Remove and let cool before serving. Meanwhile, steam the coconut for 3 to 4 minutes.

To serve; remove the kuih from the cups and coat with grated coconut.

Makes 12 small Kuih Kosui
