Perfect Burger

How about some juicy homemade beef burgers, grilled to perfection?? Yummy!! I've tried quite a few recipes using different seasonings for the beef patties and the end result was average. So, the best burger as suggested by many experts, is to do away with all the seasonings. Stick to just plain and simple, salt and pepper! Well, I totally agree with that. Get some good quality meat and you'll definitely be happy with the end result.... Beefy, tasty burgers!

Recipe adapted from Whole Foods Market

Perfect Burger

Ingredients

1 1/2 to 2 pounds ground round
Salt and pepper to taste
4 whole grain hamburger buns
Extra virgin olive oil
4 leaves romaine or green leaf lettuce
1 large tomato, sliced
1/4 small red onion, thinly sliced

Method

Prepare the grill. Divide and gently shape the meat into 4 patties. Season liberally with salt and pepper. Grill meat to desired doneness; about 4 to 6 minutes per side over a medium hot fire. Be careful not to overcook, which will dry out the meat. If you're a cheeseburger fan, add the cheese as soon as you flip to the second side. Meanwhile, brush buns with olive oil and grill just until lightly toasted. Dress burgers with lettuce, tomatoes and onions and serve.

  1. I couldn't agree more with you on the seasonings. Onions, tomato, herbs, they can all go on top -- the burger should be beef, salt and pepper only!

  3. I totally agree too with the beef seasoning, great to see burgers getting blogged! Meat, bread, salad, cheese all in one place, what's not to love about them!? So many people dismiss the good old burger as junk food but no way! I also like to mix up some thousand island with some finally chopped white onion, yellow mustard and finely chopped gherkin to spread on the top bun. Mmmn hungry now.

Dumplings

I'm actually laughing at myself! What have I got into? Trying to make dumplings?? Well, I have seen my late grandmother make them a long time ago. I can remember the ingredients but not the measurements! So, it took me about two hours to come up with the perfect recipes, and I'm glad I did! It was an instant hit! They were all gone, all gobbled up! Make the dough first, add about 480 to 500g of all-purpose flour with 300ml of water. Knead the dough and let it rest. You should be able to make 40 dumplings with the dough. Meanwhile, prepare the filling for the dumplings. Click here for the dumpling wrappers video.
